THE INFLUENCE OF THE MEDIA IN THE JURY COURT

The study aims to analyze the effects produced by the influence of the Brazilian media on jurors' votes in cases of great national repercussion. This is qualitative research, carried out using a dialectical method, and bibliographical reviews were used for definition and analysis through contrasting the positions of scholars on the topic, in addition to journalistic research on cases that have a notable influence from the media. At first, the importance of the Jury Court is demonstrated, presenting general notions about this procedure, the competence to judge intentional crimes against life, the guiding principles of the Jury Court, emphasizing the principles of the fullness of the defense, the secrecy of votes and sovereignty of verdicts. Afterwards, the media and its information function are analyzed, contrasting it with the formation of opinion in Brazilian society. Therefore, it concludes with the presentation of cases of great national repercussion that had a strong media influence on the trial carried out before the Jury Court.
