Editorial Policies and Publication Ethics

The Revista Jurídica do Nordeste Mineiro (RJNM) upholds high ethical standards in research and scholarly publishing, reaffirming its commitment to academic integrity, editorial transparency, scientific responsibility, and preservation of the scholarly record.

The journal operates in accordance with internationally recognized best practices recommended by:

  • Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE)

  • International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE)

  • Council of Science Editors (CSE)

The policies below guide authors, reviewers, editors, and readers, ensuring credibility, impartiality, and scientific excellence.


1. Editorial Ethics and Best Practices

RJNM conducts its editorial processes ethically, independently, and transparently.

Manuscripts are evaluated exclusively based on:

  • Scientific merit

  • Originality

  • Academic relevance

  • Methodological rigor

No discrimination is permitted regarding institutional affiliation, nationality, gender, political orientation, religious belief, or other personal characteristics.

Editorial decisions are independent of commercial, institutional, or financial interests.


2. Peer Review Policy

All manuscripts submitted to RJNM undergo double-blind peer review.

The editorial process includes:

  • Initial editorial screening (scope, formatting compliance, and originality check);

  • Evaluation by at least two independent expert reviewers;

  • Editorial decision based on technical reports.

Reviewers are selected based on subject-matter expertise, academic experience, and absence of conflicts of interest.


3. Author Responsibilities and Authorship Criteria

Authorship must reflect substantial intellectual contribution, including:

  • Study conception or design;

  • Research execution;

  • Data analysis or interpretation;

  • Drafting or critical revision of the manuscript.

All authors must:

  • Approve the final submitted version;

  • Agree to submission and potential publication;

  • Declare conflicts of interest;

  • Disclose funding sources or declare none;

  • Ensure originality and absence of simultaneous submission;

  • Obtain ethical approval when applicable.

Honorary, guest, or ghost authorship is not accepted.


4. Conflicts of Interest

Authors, reviewers, and editors must disclose any financial, institutional, or personal conflicts that may influence evaluation or interpretation.

If none exist, this must be explicitly stated.


5. Plagiarism and Scientific Misconduct

RJNM does not tolerate:

  • Plagiarism

  • Excessive self-plagiarism

  • Redundant submission

  • Data fabrication or manipulation

  • Improper citation manipulation

All manuscripts undergo similarity verification prior to peer review.

Suspected cases are handled according to COPE-recommended procedures and may result in rejection, retraction, or institutional notification.


6. Reviewer Responsibilities

Reviewers must:

  • Maintain strict confidentiality;

  • Declare conflicts of interest;

  • Provide ethical, technical, and constructive evaluations;

  • Meet established deadlines.


7. Editorial Responsibilities

Editors are responsible for:

  • Ensuring decisions based solely on scientific merit;

  • Maintaining fair, transparent, and impartial processes;

  • Addressing ethical complaints in accordance with international standards;

  • Preserving the integrity of the scholarly record.


8. Corrections, Retractions, and Expressions of Concern

When substantial errors or ethical issues are identified post-publication, RJNM may publish corrections, retractions, or expressions of concern to safeguard the reliability of the academic record.


9. Use of Artificial Intelligence

Artificial Intelligence tools may be used to support writing or analysis provided that:

  • Their use is explicitly declared;

  • They do not replace human intellectual authorship;

  • They are not listed as authors.

Authors remain fully responsible for the published content.


10. Research Ethics

Research must comply with applicable national and international ethical standards relevant to legal and interdisciplinary scholarship.

Where applicable, authors must declare:

  • Institutional ethical approval;

  • Informed consent when relevant.


11. Data Availability and Reproducibility

RJNM encourages scientific transparency and reproducibility.

Whenever possible, authors should indicate the availability of datasets, codes, or supplementary materials, in compliance with ethical and legal requirements.


12. Digital Preservation

RJNM adopts digital preservation strategies to ensure permanent access to its academic archive through systems such as:

  • Rede Cariniana (IBICT)

  • LOCKSS

  • CLOCKSS

  • Portico

These mechanisms ensure redundancy, security, and long-term preservation of scholarly content.
