Abstract
The present article provides an analysis of the Brazilian prison system and the social perspective of inmates through data and research on the topic. The starting point of the study is the high incarceration rate in Brazil, which is both a security and even a public health issue. In light of this scenario, this article examines the problem from a social perspective. It aims to understand the causes of rising crime rates and their connection to social inequality, as well as the failure in the process of resocialization and the increase in recidivism. The methodology used in the development of the article was explanatory, analyzing the issue at hand in order to identify causes and offer critiques.
